Hernandez, Coman & Pavard start with draw in WC qualifying

A frustrating start for Lucas Hernández, Benjamin Pavard and Kingsley Coman in qualifying for the 2022 World Cup Qatar. Despite a good performance, the Bayern trio had to settle for a 1-1 (1-0) draw against Ukraine on Wednesday evening when they turned out for the France national team. All three were in the starting lineup, with only Coman substituted off, in the 64th minute.

Pavard and Hernández, the two full-backs, were always involved going forward. Coman also made his mark offensively against Ukraine.

The three players from Munich were involved in almost every attack as the world champions started the game strongly. The French team were overwhelmingly the better side at the Stade de France and deservedly took the lead through Antoine Griezmann (19'). But Ukraine fought their way back into the game and took advantage of one of their few chances with Presnel Kimpembe's own goal (57') levelling the scores. The French were punished for not finishing off the game in the first half. Hernández & co. continue their campaign on Wednesday, March 31 (8:45 p.m CEST), in Sarajevo, with their second qualifier of the international break against Bosnia-Herzegovina.
