Not every team can come back from a real setback like that! In their 4-0 win over VfB Stuttgart, Bayern were a man down early on when Alphonso Davies was sent off - but after that, they really turned up the heat! "After the red card, we played really well. That woke us up," said Robert Lewandowski, who played a decisive role in the home victory, netting three times. "I have to pay my team a huge compliment," said Hansi Flick after the final whistle, delighted with his team's performance.
Reaction from the Bayern camp:
Hansi Flick: "I have to pay my team a huge compliment. They worked well defensively after the red card, a correct red card, and made the spaces very, very small as a team and did very well in possession, especially in the first half. The way we created chances was simply outstanding. We had to change our defence today and were very compact at the back against a team with a one-man advantage. We kept a clean sheet and got the three points - that was our goal, so it's a successful matchday for us."
Robert Lewandowski: "When you're on the pitch, you always have to try and give everything for the team. Today we managed to do what we planned. After the red card, we played really well. That woke us up. Before that, we didn't start well. After that, it was a challenge for us to continue creating scoring chances and score goals. We wanted to keep going forward after the first goal and try to add to our advantage."
Serge Gnabry: "It was a strange feeling at first, of course. Especially when you still have so long to play. But after that it all went like clockwork. I think the mood today at the game and after the game will carry us through the next few weeks. We now have the international break. But after that we're looking forward to the game against Leipzig. The game today gives us a lot of confidence."
Reaction from the Stuttgart camp:
Pellegrino Materazzo (VfB Stuttgart head coach): "We started the game well, you could even say that we were dominant. We played good football and should have taken the lead shortly after [Davies'] red card [for the challenge] on Sasa Kalajdzic. After that, something happened mentally. Either we felt pressure to win or we thought that the pressure was off us. We learnt a lesson in the first half and I hope we do better next time."
Sven Mislintat (VfB Stuttgart Sporting Director): "We were no match for Bayern because Müller and Lewandowski played with brutal precision and quality. Thomas almost single-handedly made up for Bayern's one-man deficit. We learnt a lesson today. Bayern scored with every chance they had in the first half. They made us look like Bundesliga newboys today."
Gregor Kobel (VfB Stuttgart): "After a red card, you want to attack higher up the pitch. But today, the patterns didn't fit anymore. Everyone was unsettled and our balance no longer worked. Bayern just have enormous quality and if you are not on the ball, they can impose themselves. It happened relatively quickly and we conceded three goals. That's how our own insecurity crept in."
