The most important game on Matchday 26

Before the first international break of 2021, Matchday 26 of the 2020/21 Bundesliga season is on the agenda this weekend. Defending champions FC Bayern extended their lead over rivals RB Leipzig last week with a commanding 3-1 victory at Werder Bremen. The gap between the two sides in the title fight is now four points, while third-placed VfL Wolfsburg are ten points behind the record champions and are unlikely to make major headway in the title chase. DSC Arminia Bielefeld vs. RB Leipzig

KO: Friday, 19.03.2021, 20:30CET

The lowdown: Bayern's title rivals RB Leipzig kick-off the 26th Bundesliga matchday with an away game at promoted Arminia Bielefeld on Friday evening. After a 1-1 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt last time out, the Saxons' gap between themselves and the record champions is up to four points. A win is therefore a must, especially since their next game after the international break (3 April, 18:30 pm CET) is a match-up with the side one place above them in the league. In their last league fixture, Arminia celebrated their first win in the second half of the season with a 2-1 success at Bayer Leverkusen; their first victory under new coach Frank Kramer. For the first time since MD18, Bielefeld are out of the bottom three.

Stats corner: Going into the match in Bielefeld, everything seems in favour of Leipzig, who are unbeaten in seven matches (six wins, one draw) and haven't lost to a promoted team since their promotion to the Bundesliga (15 wins, three draws). With nine wins and two draws, RB have the best record of all Bundesliga teams when playing on a Friday. In addition, the men from Saxony have won each of their last three away games 3-0.

The 1-1 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt last week left RB Leipzig two important points further adrift in the title fight.
