After the first international break of the year, FC Bayern are straight back into action in the Bundesliga. Matchday 27 sees the top-of-the-table clash at RB Leipzig, the club's closest rivals in the table, which could prove pivotal to who finishes the season lifting the Meisterschale. FCB could extend their lead over RB to seven points, but the Saxons could also move within one point of the Bavarians. Here you can read about other games in the Bundesliga, and further afield, that Bayern will have an eye on as the weekend progresses.
VfL Wolfsburg vs. 1. FC Köln
Kick-off: Saturday, 03.04.2021, 15:30 (*all times CEST)
Significance: Behind Leipzig, VfL Wolfsburg lurk in third, though the Wolves are some ten points behind leaders FCB. The Wolves naturally want to take advantage should one or both of the top two drop points when they go head-to-head. To do so, they need a win against the side 16th in the table.
Key stats: Wolfsburg have had a really good season so far and have already collected more points (51) than in the entirety of last term (49). They are particularly formidable at home - alongside Bayern and Eintracht Frankfurt, VfL are one of three sides still unbeaten on home turf, with a record of eight wins and four draws.
1. FC Union Berlin vs. Hertha BSC
Kick-off: Sunday, 05.04.2021, 18:00
Significance: FCB host Union Berlin at the Allianz Arena next weekend. For the Berliners, however, perhaps their most important game of the season comes now with their derby against Hertha. With a win against their 14th-placed city rivals, Union could further establish themselves in the top third of the standings and maybe even begin to dream of greater things. Union are currently seventh and two points behind a European spot. Hertha, on the other hand, are in a relegation dogfight and cannot afford to slip further down.
Key stats: The last matchday went very differently for the two capital clubs. Union went into the international break having suffered their biggest defeat of the season (a 5-2 reverse in Frankfurt), while Hertha celebrated one of their best results of 2020/21, a 3-0 success over Bayer Leverkusen.
Paris Saint-Germain vs. Lille
Kick-off: Saturday, 03.04.2021, 17:00
Significance: Before the clash with Union, however, FCB have their Champions League quarter-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday. The French champions also have a top-of-the-table clash coming up this weekend. Leaders PSG host Lille on Saturday, with the two sides level on points. If PSG are to defend their title, a win is a must.
Key stats: With 67 goals, Paris have the best attack in Ligue 1 after 30 games (Lille have scored 50 by comparison), but their upcoming opponents have the best defence. Lille have only conceded 19 goals, while PSG (21) are a close second.
