Choupo paves way to victory over Bayer

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting was quick to fire home the rebound, thundering the ball into the net for an early lead. The attacker was in the right place at the right time in the seventh minute - right where a striker should be. With his goal to make it 1-0 against Leverkusen, the 32-year-old laid the foundation for FC Bayern's important step towards the German league title. In the end, the Munich team won 2-0, extending their lead over Leipzig to ten points - FCB can now wrap up the title on Saturday in Mainz.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting opened the scoring with a fulminating volley

Choupo-Moting once again proved his worth for coach Hansi Flick's team against die Werkself. The striker worked hard and was involved in a number of chances. In the 66th minute, he scored what would have been Bayern's third of the evening, but he was slightly offside. Ten minutes before the end, he set up Jamal Musiala with an eye-catching backheel, but the latter's effort went just wide of Leverkusen goalkeeper Lukáš Hrádecký's goal.

Choupo-Moting's second goal against Leverkusen was disallowed due to a tight offside call.

In the absence of top goalscorer Robert Lewandowski, who is currently working on his comeback, Choupo-Moting has been impressive. Following his goals against Paris Saint-Germain and at VfL Wolfsburg, the striker scored against Leverkusen, the third game in a row in which he's netted.

New personal record against former club?

Choupo-Moting has only managed this feat once before in his career - in 2014 at 1. FSV Mainz 05. The fact that he could now set a personal record on Saturday in the possible title clincher at his former club should be incentive enough.
