Superb strike in Der Klassiker - fans choose Leon Goretzka
There are goals that are important for the course of the game and the final result. There are goals that are simply beautiful to look at, like a work of art. When both types come together, this creates the perfect result. In the big undesliga match between FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund, Leon Goretzka made it 3-2 with a remarkable and technically demanding volley in the 88th minute. The record champions went on to win the duel 4-2 after falling 2-0 behind earlier on, and picked up three important points in the title race.
Narrow lead over Lewandowski
Goretzka's great strike earned plaudits from you, the record champions' fans, who chose the 26-year-old's goal for their FC Bayern Goal of the Month for March. With 32.3% of the votes cast, Goretzka narrowly prevailed over striker Robert Lewandowski and his remarkable header to make it 3-0 against VfB Stuttgart (29.3%). Third place went to Linda Dallmann's goal for a 4-0 win against SC Freiburg (17.3%).
There was great joy after Goretzka's goal - for the goalscorer and his teammates.
"Games against Dortmund are very special for me because of my past," said the Bochum-born former Schalke player, who paved the way for victory in the prestige duel. For Goretzka, it was the third time Bayern fans have voted one of his goals as the best of the month. He won out over his teammates back in November 2019 and January 2020. Goretzka has a few more chances to repeat his success from March in the coming weeks before the end of the season.
