Play-off chances still alive after four points against Barcelona

“They were four important points,” was how coach Matthias Luttenberger summed up Matchday 7 of the KONAMI eFootball.Pro League for FC Bayern Esports. His team won 2-1 in the first game against Barcelona before claiming a 1-1 draw in the second contest. Eighth-placed Bayern have thus moved to within two points of the Catalans, who occupy the coveted sixth place, which results in qualification for the play-offs. “Now we’ve got two finals against Manchester United and Monaco,” said a determined Luttenberger.

Watch the highlights from the matchday here:

Before the matchday, Miguel Mestre described the meeting with Barca as “do or die” games, and that’s precisely how he and his teammates went about their job. Right from the start, Bayern went on the attack and led 2-0 after just 10 minutes. It was one-way traffic in the first half, before Barca came into the game more in the second half and pulled a goal back midway through. A sending off for FCB then increased the tension further, but Bayern stood firm to bag a deserved victory.

Crucial match against Man United

The second match was more even and Barcelona took the lead straight after the restart. Bayern then equalised with a wonderful move across the length of the pitch. They take on Manchester United next on 24 April, in the first of two crucial last games. The English side (19 points) are just above Bayern in seventh, so it’s all to play for!
