A historic success for Alphonso Davies and the Canadian national team, who have reached the final round of World Cup qualifying for the first time in 24 years. In the early hours of Wednesday, the Bayern left-back and his team beat Haiti 3-0, following on from a 1-0 victory in the first leg on Sunday night.
After a goalless first half, a strange own goal by goalkeeper Josue Duverger shortly after the restart gave Canada the lead. Cyle Larin (74') and Junior Hoilett (89') completed the scoring, while Davies played until the 82nd minute. The win seals the Canadians' progression to the final qualifying round, which will begin in September. Eight countries battle it out in a round-robin format for three places in next year's World Cup in Qatar.
