FC Bayern and Audi are accelerating the electrification of the German champions. Going forward, 15 Bayern players and officials will use the fully electric premium models Audi e-tron GT* or Audi RS e-tron GT* as company cars. The official handover of the sporty electric cars took place at the Audi driving experience center in Neuburg an der Donau.
“FC Bayern stands for a responsible approach to the environment and mobility,” said Andreas Jung, FC Bayern board member for marketing. “Together with Audi, we want to inspire people to do more to protect the climate, through positive examples of successful transformation. The electrification of our fleet with the Audi e-tron* and the equipping of our training ground and the Allianz Arena with charging points are great examples of this. We’re proud to have a shareholder like Audi, who perfectly combine sportiness, innovation and sustainability.”
Both partners started their joint journey to sustainable mobility in September 2020. The club’s vehicle fleet has been continuously electrified since then. A large part of the squad as well as the club’s management are now driving fully electric with the Audi e-tron* or Audi e-tron Sportback*. And as of now, 15 Bayern players and officials will be driving the strong, sporty and emotive beacon among Audi’s electric cars.
At the official handover, Germany internationals Leroy Sané, Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry, as well as the Bundesliga’s new record holder for most goals in a season, Robert Lewandowski, were among those who experienced the fascinating acceleration of the sporty electric car and how it handles through the bends. The players used the test track at the Audi driving experience center to try out their driving skills and reaction abilities. Under the guidance of Formula E champion Lucas di Grassi and his current team-mate Rene Rast, they sought the ideal line with the Audi e-tron GT* and Audi RS e-tron GT*.
“The power of the Audi RS e-tron GT is exciting,” said head coach Julian Nagelsmann. “Driving electric is the future of mobility,” added an impressed Sané when talking about “how smoothly the Audi RS e-tron GT whizzes through corners.” Henrik Wenders, Head of Brand Audi, explained: “When imagination and passion meet, it creates great success. That is just as true for our partner FC Bayern as it is for Audi. The Audi e-tron GT and the Audi RS e-tron GT demonstrate intelligent performance in its purest form. These models are already shaping the Audi brand for the future. It’s therefore obvious that these brand ambassadors form a unit with the FC Bayern brand ambassadors and we show how we’re living Vorsprung together.”
