“The King” is back – and back in top form! After undergoing heart surgery in mid-September, Kingsley Coman has made his comeback for FC Bayern this week. The German record champions’ number 11 has impressed straight away with his rapid acceleration, excellent dribbling and a goal off the bench.
Man of the Match against Benfica
Coman made his first appearance in around a month during last Sunday’s 5-1 triumph at Bayer Leverkusen. Then on Wednesday, he returned to the starting line-up against Benfica in the Champions League, and delivered a man-of-the-match performance in the 4-0 win. “King is an outstanding player,” said Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann in his press conference on Friday ahead of the match against Hoffenheim. “He dribbles at incredible pace. There isn’t a coach in the world who wouldn’t want to work with him.”
Substitute goal against Hoffenheim
The French winger then crowned his comeback week against TSG, coming on in the 70th minute and providing Bayern with fresh impetus again. Three minutes before the end, he bagged his first goal of the season to complete a 4-0 win. “We’re all very happy that King is back again and in irresistible form,” said assistant coach Dino Toppmöller, who again deputised for Nagelsmann in the dugout against Hoffenheim. “He put in an impressive performance on Wednesday and followed that up when he came on today. All of us are even more pleased that things are immediately going so well for him.”
Games coming thick and fast
Bayern play in midweek again this coming week, travelling to Borussia Mönchengladbach on Wednesday in the second round of the DFB Cup (kick-off 20:45 CEST). Coman will be looking to continue his excellent performances from his comeback week.
