Dino Toppmöller: A totally wasted day

A bad night for Bayern, as they went down 5-0 (3-0) away from home to Borussia Mönchengladbach. Reaction from players and coaches here:

Reaction from the Bayern camp

Hasan Salihamidžić (Board Member for Sport): "We were just not in it, not in any 50/50. In the first half, we didn't win any 50/50s, we didn't go up a gear and we let the game slip away. It was a collective failure. It is inexplicable. We know how difficult it is playing at Gladbach. Everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong. Gladbach played well, they took on every challenge from the first minute and really got stuck into the game."

Dino Toppmöller: "We had a major mind-blank, we were a yard too slow every time. It's hard to accept. It was a well-deserved win for Gladbach. We planned to do a lot of things, but then we couldn't put them into practice. To be 3-0 down after 20 minutes here is a disaster, of course. It was a totally wasted day and we're sorry that we disappointed our fans so much. We have to dust ourselves down now and show a reaction on Saturday."

Thomas Müller: "We never got to the point where our Bayern engine kicked in. We can only apologise to the fans and apologise to Gladbach. With the exception of Neuer, it was a catastrophic performance from us. I haven't experienced anything like that before. It's difficult to wrap your head round. We have to put it behind us now, because we've got a game on Saturday."

Reaction from the Gladbach camp:

Max Eberl (Mönchengladbach Sporting Director): "You dream of things like this every now and then. It's really a great night, a great performance from the team. We were irrepressible, defended from the front and scored goals early on."

Adi Hütter (Mönchengladbach head coach): "I have to compliment the team enormously. It's a victory that's more than deserved. We studied Bayern, they defend with a very high line. Today, everything worked. We played so well and so fast. We're happy to have completed this historic win."

Breel Embolo (Mönchengladbach): "It's always hard to play Bayern, they might well be the best team in the world. But we were confident. Against a world-class team like this in particular, you have to take your chances with ice-cool calmness. That's what we did. We did great today and we're enjoying our evening."
