Félicitation! France made their place at the World Cup finals in Qatar absolutely certain on Saturday evening with an 8-0 win at home to Kazakhstan. Bayern trio Dayot Upamecano, Lucas Hernández and Kingsley Coman all started in Paris, while Benjamin Pavard came on for Coman after 79 minutes. Kylian Mbappé netted four of the goals for Les Bleus, with a Karim Benzema brace, an Adrien Rabiot goal and an Antoine Griezmann penalty completing the scoring.
Coman with two assists
The industrious Coman set up two of the goals for Paris Saint-Germain striker Mbappé, who was the star of the show in front of 45,000 spectators at his home ground of Parc des Princes. With 15 points from seven matches, the reigning world champions can longer be caught at the top of Group D, with nearest challengers Finland on 11 points in second place. The two countries face each other in the final round of fixtures on Tuesday (20:45 CET).
As well as the French and hosts Qatar, Brazil, Denmark, Belgium and Germany – who round off their campaign in Armenia on Sunday evening (18:00 CET) – have already qualified for the tournament, which takes place from 21 November to 18 December 2022.
