"We're happy with the result and also with our performance," summarised captain Manuel Neuer after a hard-earned 1-0 home win against Arminia Bielefeld. Thanks to the win, FC Bayern will go into next weekend's top-of-the-table clash against rivals Borussia Dortmund with a one-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga table. Coach Julian Nagelsmann was also happy after the narrow success and was already looking ahead to the clash with BVB: "I'm very satisfied. We now travel to Dortmund top of the table, and we're looking forward to it immensely." Reaction from both camps to the game:
Reaction from the Bayern camp:
Julian Nagelsmann: "I'm very satisfied. It was a step forward after the Augsburg game. We had enough chances to win the game. In the second half, we missed some chances. Dortmund won, so we were under a bit of pressure. Fortunately, we broke the deadlock. It's a deserved win. We don't always have to score three, four or five goals. One is enough sometimes. Overall, we defended well. Games like this one just gone are important. If you lose games like this one, it's not good enough to just win games like next week. We now travel to Dortmund top of the table and we're looking forward to it immensely."
Manuel Neuer: "The workmanlike win was fine, it was a professional, workmanlike victory. We're happy with the result and also with the performance. We know Bielefeld, it's not easy to come up against a defence that puts bodies behind the ball and still score goals. We had to wait a long time for the first goal, but Leroy put it away superbly. It was important to keep a clean sheet, we're very happy about that from a defensive perspective."
Thomas Müller: "It's a nice stat. It shows that I've come a long way. (396th Bundesliga game for FC Bayern - ed.) But I prefer to look at the shorter path that still lies ahead of me. When it comes to assists, it's all about hanging in there. Not every chance goes in during a game, but I have many players around me all of whom possess enormous quality."
Serge Gnabry: "It was very hard work. We played well, often got in behind, but too often our final ball was somewhat lacking. We have so much quality going forward, we're in good nick and are full of confidence. Our anticipation ahead of Der Klassiker is always enormous. The victory [tonight] was enormously important for us to be able to go into the game with our heads held high."
Jamal Musiala: "Bielefeld defended well. We wanted to create gaps. When we scored, I tried to play the ball through. Thomas' pass and Leroy's shot were great. It will be a great game against Dortmund [next week]. I'm looking forward to it."
Reaction from the Bielefeld camp:
Frank Kramer (Arminia Bielefeld head coach): "Of course we're not satisfied when we lose. But I'm happy with the performance. We put a lot in, but we didn't finish our final and penultimate balls with the required accuracy. If you want to sucker-punch Bayern, you have to do just that [and be accurate with your final balls]. In terms of timing, we were well and truly in the game. We got through a few times. You have to take your chances."
Stefan Ortega (Arminia Bielefeld): "We can accept losing to Bayern Munich, but it still hurts. Bayern were dominant, but we rode our luck and still managed to create one or two good chances. Who knows how the game could have gone had we taken the lead? For the effort we put in, the result is a shame."
