Sabitzer and Austria win in final World Cup qualifier

FC Bayern midfielder Marcel Sabitzer rounded off FIFA World Cup qualifying with Austria with a 4-1 win over Moldova in Klagenfurt on Monday evening. Marko Arnautovic (4’, 55’), Christopher Trimmel (22‘) and Dejan Ljubicic (83‘) got the goals for Franco Foda’s side. Sabitzer played the full 90 minutes and set up the final strike for Ljubicic. Austria end the qualification campaign fourth in Group F on 16 points. However, they could still feature in Qatar as they have qualified for the play-offs in March as one of the two best group winners from the UEFA Nations League not to come in the top two of their qualifying section.

Poland suffered a 2-1 loss at home to Hungary in their final qualifying match. Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski didn’t feature in Warsaw. His country finish second in Group I on 20 points behind England and are also in the play-offs for the final three European places at the World Cup.
