Just one step away from the final! Bouna Sarr made it through to the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal on Sunday evening with a 3-1 (1-0) win over Equatorial Guinea. A day before his 30th birthday, the FC Bayern full-back again played the full 90 minutes for the Lions of Teranga and gave himself an early birthday present by reaching the next round.
Favourites hold firm
Famara Diedhiou (28th minute) put the favourites in front after just under half an hour after some good build-up work by superstar Sadio Mané. However, the Senegalese failed to add another goal and instead conceded the equaliser coming up to the hour mark through Jannick Buyla (57th). Shortly afterwards, however, substitute Cheikhou Kouyaté (68th) took advantage of a miscued clearance by Equatorial Guinea's backline to regain the lead before Ismaila Sarr (79th), who'd also come off the bench, wrapped up the win for Senegal. Sarr and Co. will now face Burkina Faso in the last four on Wednesday evening (20:00 CET).
Sarr and Co. had reached the quarter-finals earlier in the week with a 2-0 win over Cape Verde:
