Choupo-Moting and Sarr reach quarter-finals

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting reached the last eight of the Africa Cup of Nations with Cameroon on Monday evening. The host nation beat Comoros 2-1 in the last 16. Karl Toko Ekambi gave the home side the lead (29') before Vincent Aboubakar extended this to 2-0 from close range in the second half (70'). Comoros, who were a man down for 83 minutes after captain Nadjim Abdou was sent off, reduced the deficit with Youssouf M'Changama's free-kick nine minutes from time. 32-year-old Choupo-Moting was substituted off after 63 minutes.

Bouna Sarr has also reached the next round of the competition. The Bayern defender won his last-16 game with Senegal 2-0 against Cape Verde on Tuesday. Sadio Mané (63') and Bamba Dieng (90+2') scored the goals for the favourites, who ended the game with a two-man advantage after red cards for Vozinha and Patrick Andrade. Sarr was on the pitch for the entire game and initiated the Mané goal with a corner kick.

Choupo-Moting and Cameroon meet Gambia on Saturday 29 January at 17:00 CET. Sarr and Senegal will learn their opponents on Wednesday evening.
