FC Bayern midfielders Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka have been honoured by fans of the German national team. Kimmich was voted Player of the Year for 2021 by the DFB fan club with 33.8 percent of the votes, beating Kai Havertz (22.7%) and Leroy Sané (13.6%). Kimmich made a total of 14 international appearances last year, leading the team as captain on two occasions.
Goretzka bags Goal of the Year
Meanwhile, teammate Goretzka received the award for the national team’s Goal of the Year for his strike in the final EURO 2020 group match against Hungary. With Die Mannschaft trailing 2-1 in the closing stages and heading out of the tournament, Goretzka slammed the ball into the net from 14 metres to make it 2-2 and secure Germany’s place in the round of 16.
