Bayern Munich have agreed a contract extension with Paul Wanner. The 16-year-old midfielder is the youngest FC Bayern player ever to make a Bundesliga appearance for the club. In the second half of the season, Wanner was subbed on by coach Julian Nagelsmann in the 2-1 defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach, the 4-0 win away to Köln and the 4-1 defeat of Hertha BSC.
"We are very happy that Paul Wanner is continuing his very good development at FC Bayern," commented board member for sport Hasan Salihamidžić. "Paul has shown in training with the first team that he has the chance to develop in our team thanks to his talent. The fact that he has already been used in the Bundesliga at the age of 16 confirms not only his ability, but also the excellent work being done at the FC Bayern Campus."
Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann said he was pleased "that Paul Wanner is staying with us. We’ve enabled him to take his first steps in the Bundesliga, and many more are to follow. Paul is a special talent that we want to develop. My coaching team and I will try to live up to the expectations he has of us. On the other hand, we expect Paul always to put everything he has into it as well."
Paul Wanner stated: "I am incredibly proud and happy to have signed my first contract with FC Bayern today. My childhood dream has come true. I’ve been playing for FC Bayern since I was 12 and always wanted to become a pro here. I would like to thank everyone at the FC Bayern Campus, as well as Hasan Salihamidžić and head coach Julian Nagelsmann for their trust. A huge thank you to my family, who have always supported me."
Wanner came to Bayern from Ravensburg in 2018 and has appeared for all of FC Bayern's youth teams from the Under 14s upwards.
FC Bayern has also extended the contract of Bright Arrey-Mbi, with the defender loaned to 1. FC Köln for 18 months:
