Having already been selected for the FIFA FIFPRO World XI in 2020 and won the Best FIFA Men's Player award that year, Lewandowski continued his outstanding performances over the past 12 months. With a total of 58 goals in 2021, Lewandowski was the top goalscorer in Europe's top five leagues by far (Kylian Mbappé was second with 43 goals).
