Interview with African champion Bouna Sarr: “I was amazed”

“I’m happy to be back in Munich,” said freshly crowned African champion Bouna Sarr on Friday as he returned to Säbener Straße for the first time since lifting the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal. And he was greeted with an emotional welcome by Oliver Kahn, Julian Nagelsmann and his teammates. The right-back spoke to fcbayern.com about his first title with the national team and how he received a rousing ovation on his return.

Bouna Sarr, African champion – how does that sound to you? Have you come to terms with it?
Bouna Sarr:
“It’s all still very new, I’m just realising it day after day. We created such a positive reaction for millions of Senegalese people. I won’t ever forget that. I got back to Munich today and am just enjoying the feeling of having achieved a historic win for my country with my teammates.”

Sarr was welcomed back on Friday by Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic.

How were you welcomed back by your teammates and the staff at FC Bayern?
“I was completely surprised and amazed. It made me feel great. They welcomed be amazingly and it shows me that they were behind me during the tournament. I’m just very happy to come back to them with this title and victory at the Africa Cup of Nations and am pleased to see them all again. I missed them and am pleased to be back in Munich.”

Will the win give you more motivation for the rest of the season and your future at Bayern?
“Yes, it gives me lots of motivation and I’ve got a lot of positive energy for the rest of the season. Now it’s up to me to do my best and give my all to help the team achieve our goals. I think we can do something great.”
