FC Bayern will begin their 2022/23 DFB Cup campaign away at Viktoria Köln of the third division. The draw for the first round was made on Sunday at the German Football Museum by Kevin Großkreutz and DFB vice-president Peter Frymuth.
One encounter almost 43 years ago
Viktoria qualified for the first round by virtue of winning the Middle Rhine Cup. Bayern’s only previous meeting with the current third division club was almost 43 years ago when they were known as SC Viktoria 04 Köln and beaten 3-1 in the second round by a team including Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Paul Breitner. The Cologne club faced the FCB Reserves last season in the third division, winning both encounters.
Bayern to play on 30 or 31 August
While the majority of the first-round fixtures will be played on the weekend of 29 July-1 August, Julian Nagelsmann and his team won’t kick off their journey to Berlin until 30/31 August due to the fact they will be contesting the DFL Supercup as Bundesliga champions against DFB Cup holders RB Leipzig on 30 July.
