FC Bayern has agreed the transfer of 22-year-old central defender Lars Lukas Mai to Swiss top flight club FC Lugano.
Hasan Salihamidzic, board member for sport: "Lars Lukas joined FC Bayern at the age of 14 and is a good example of the excellent youth development work in our academy. He gained two years of experience in our first-team squad, then match practice in Darmstadt and Bremen, and he will now show his qualities in the Swiss top flight. Our aim is always to devise a suitable career plan for our youth players. We’ve succeeded in doing so with Lars Lukas, and Lugano can look forward to a very accomplished defender. We wish him all the best and much success."
Mai joined Bayern from Dresden in 2014 and featured for FC Bayern at every youth level from U16 onwards. In 2017, he won the German B-Junior championship with the U17s. With the FC Bayern reserves, he gained promotion to the national third division in 2019, where the team won the league at the first attempt. Mai made two Bundesliga appearances for the first team in the 2017/18 season, thereby playing a part in the championship success. The central defender was also in the first team squad in the 2019/20 season, at the end of which FC Bayern completed the second treble in the club's history. The following year, Mai went out on loan to Bundesliga 2 club SV Darmstadt 98, before playing for Werder Bremen on loan last season, which ended in promotion back to the Bundesliga for the northern club.
Marc Roca is also departing Bayern this summer:
