The Allianz FC Bayern Team Presentation on Saturday had plenty to offer for young and old, but the biggest news of the day came from this man: Serge Gnabry is staying at Bayern until at least 2026! The mood was suitably buoyant at the press conference afterwards. “It’s something special when you can play for titles with your friends, your brothers,” emphasised the winger, who recently turned 27. Here you can find out what Gnabry, Bayern president Herbert Hainer, CEO Oliver Kahn and board member for sport Hasan Salihamidžić had to say on the contract extension.
Serge Gnabry on...
The contract extension: “I’m hugely excited about staying here and the new season with the team. I’m just happy.”
The new signings: “They’re all great characters and they’ve integrated into the squad really well. For our objectives and the fact we’re in a lot of competitions, it’s important we’ve added strength in depth.”
Joshua Kimmich: “Of course I know it was important for him, but it’s just as nice for me that I can continue playing together with Leroy, Joshua and Leon. It’s something special when you can play for titles with your friends, your brothers, and that’s our aim.”
Herbert Hainer on Gnabry
“I’m glad he’s staying here. I like his playing style. He knows the team and his teammates, and has big ambitions with FC Bayern. We have an attack that a lot of other clubs would like.”
Oliver Kahn on Gnabry
“We’re absolutely delighted. He’s at the perfect age for a footballer. It’s part of our philosophy to keep players like him for the long term. You always need to bring fresh blood into the team, but it’s equally important to tie down important players. He’s a player who can score many and important goals, and it makes me happy that he’ll continue to be in the team.”
Hasan Salihamidžić on Gnabry
“We had good, fair negotiations. We’re happy he’s staying here. We’ve already won a lot of titles together, but I think there’s more to come from him. Now the contract issue is out of his head and he can focus fully on football, so I’m confident that he’ll bring us a lot more joy. I’m glad that he’s staying because I also really like him on a personal level.”
