Joshua Zirkzee moves from Bayern to Bologna

FC Bayern have reached an agreement with Joshua Zirkzee and Bologna FC on a transfer of the Dutch U21 international to the Italian top-flight club. As part of the deal, the German record champions have a buy-back clause for the 21-year-old forward.

Hasan Salihamidzic, FC Bayern board member for sport: “Joshua Zirkzee has great potential and it’s now vital for his development that he plays regularly. That’s why we complied with his request and have now agreed a transfer with Bologna FC. The agreement includes a buy-back clause because Joshua remains a very interesting player for us. We will follow his progress in Bologna and wish him much success in Serie A.”

Zirkzee joined the Bayern U17 side from Feyenoord in summer 2017 and eventually earned himself a three-year professional contract in 2020. He made 17 appearances in all competitions for the first team, netting four goals. For the German record champions’ reserve team, he scored six goals in 32 outings. He spent last season on loan at Anderlecht in the Belgian First Division A, where he registered 18 goals in 47 games. He also spent time at Parma in the previous season. During his time in Munich, Zirkzee won two Bundesliga titles as well as the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and the DFB Cup once each, plus the DFL-Supercup twice. With the reserves he celebrated the third division title in 2020 and the Regionalliga championship in 2019.
