Herbert Hainer and Oliver Kahn attend farewell for Uwe Seeler

A fitting tribute to Uwe Seeler: On Wednesday, Germany's football family bid farewell to the Hamburg football legend, who died on 21 July at the age of 85, at a memorial service. Among the thousand or so invited guests at Hamburg's Volksparkstadion, including Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Hamburg's First Mayor Peter Tschentscher and DFB president Bernd Neuendorf, were FC Bayern president Herbert Hainer and Oliver Kahn, CEO of the German record champions.

From afar, Franz Beckenbauer also bid his former teammate in the German national team farewell. The FC Bayern honorary president, who finished runner-up at the 1966 World Cup and third at the 1970 World Cup alongside Seeler, wrote in a letter: "It was a great honour for me to play with you in the national team."
