With a whirlwind 7-0 victory at Bochum, Bayern iced the cake of an already strong start to the campaign. Julian Nagelsmann's men are in exceptional early-season form and setting new standards in the Bundesliga, as a look at the seven key facts from the game shows:
1. Best-ever start in league history
Bayern have nine points and a goal difference of +14 (15 for, 1 against) after three games. No other team in Bundesliga history has amassed a record this good at this point of the season!
2. Equal-highest away win
Bayern had only ever won by seven goals away from home in the German top flight twice before, an 8-1 success at St. Pauli on 5 May 2011 and the 7-0 victory at Werder Bremen on 7 December 2013. Bochum's previous highest home defeat in the Bundesliga was a 6-0 loss to Bremen on 14 October 2006 – now, there’s a new entry in the VfL annals.
3. Goal machine on the road
6-1 in Frankfurt a fortnight ago and now 7-0 in Bochum: Bayern are only the second team in Bundesliga history to score (at least) six times in two consecutive away games, a feat previously only achieved by Werder Bremen in 2006.
4. Most goals ever after three games
With 15 goals after three games, Bayern also set a new Bundesliga record. The previous record was 14 goals after this many matches, set by VfB Stuttgart in 1984/85.
5. Bavarian early birds
Bayern have already scored 11 first-half goals this season, a clear new record in the Bundesliga - the previous best was set by today's opponents Bochum, of all teams, in the 2002/03 season with eight goals in the first half on the first three matchdays.
6. Sadio's dream start
Thanks to his brace against Bochum, Sadio Mané joined Karim Onisiwo of Mainz and team-mate Jamal Musiala at the top of the goalscoring charts. The Senegal superstar has scored three goals in his first three Bundesliga games for Bayern - a feat last achieved by Mario Mandžukić ten years ago after he joined FCB. Incidentally, Mané had not scored a single penalty in the Premier League (he was denied on his only attempt in 2015/16 for Southampton by then Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet) - now he’s scored from the spot at the first attempt in Bochum.
7. Perfect start for de Ligt
In the Bochum clash, Matthijs de Ligt scored his first goal for Bayern with his very first shot in the Bundesliga (in his second game).
