There was good news on the fitness front at Bayern on the eve of their Champions League clash with Inter Milan. Captain Manuel Neuer was finally able to complete goalkeeper-specific training on Monday. The 36-year-old captain has had to miss the recent games against Viktoria Plzen, Freiburg, Augsburg, Hoffenheim, Barcelona and Mainz. “We hope he’ll be available again for the weekend. He came through training well and didn’t show any reaction. But we’ll have to wait and see,” coach Julian Nagelsmann said at his press conference on Monday.
Hernandez in team training
There was also positive news with Lucas Hernandez as the defender trained with the team on Monday for the first time since suffering a muscle tear in September. However, neither will be able to play against Inter on Tuesday. Leroy Sane is also back working with the squad but “not yet an option” to face the Italians. “He’ll probably come back into the team at the weekend,” Nagelsmann confirmed.
De Ligt and Müller both out
Bayern will also be without Matthijs de Ligt on Tuesday. “He won’t be available, has knee problems, injured the capsule a bit. It’ll probably be fine again for the weekend, but we have to take things one day at a time,” the coach explained. Thomas Müller is also out due to an irritation with his hip. The forward completed some running training on his own on Monday. “We’ll reduce Thomas’s workload this week and see how things are for the weekend. But I’m leaning more towards him not being back at the weekend,” Nagelsmann confirmed.
