With a 2-0 victory in their final fixture against Inter Milan, FC Bayern finished this season's Champions League group stage on the maximum 18 points. After 2019/20 and last season, it's the third time that the Munich outfit have won all six group games - more than any other team in Europe's most prestigious club competition.

The numbers highlight just what a remarkable achievement it is. In what is the the 31st edition of the Champions League, Nagelsmann's class of 2022/23 are only the 11th team to go through to the knockout stages without dropping a point. Other than FC Bayern, only Real Madrid (2014/15 and 2011/12) had previously recorded a perfect Champions League group stage more than once. FCB also boast the best record of all teams in this season's competition, with 18 points, 18 goals scored and just two conceded, underlining their ambition to go all the way.

The definition of 'group-stage specialists', Bayern are now unbeaten in their last 34 matches at this stage (W31, D3), and have won their last 13 - both tournament records.
Nagelsmann ties van Gaal's record
For such a run, you need the right person on the touchline, which is where Nagelsmann comes in. The 35-year-old has won his last 14 group stage games in the Champions League (two with RB Leipzig, 12 with FC Bayern) by a goal difference of 47-10, equalling a record set by one of his predecessors. Only Louis van Gaal had previously managed 14 wins in a row, doing so between 1999 and 2009 with Barcelona and Bayern.
