France: Bayern trio book quarter-final berth

Holders France and their three Bayern players progressed to the quarter-finals of the World Cup on Sunday with a 3-1 win over Poland. Dayot Upamecano played the full 90 minutes, Kingsley Coman came on with around a quarter of an hour left and Benjamin Pavard was an unused substitute. Les Bleus took control of the game from the beginning although Poland, led by ex-Bayern man Robert Lewandowski, were a constant threat. Olivier Giroud eventually gave the French the lead in the 44th minute, followed by a brace from Kylian Mbappé (74’, 90’+1) in the second half. Lewandowski netted a consolation goal for the Poles with a penalty (90’+9). France now take on England on Saturday night (20:00 CET) for a place in the semi-finals.
