"What are they wearing?" – That was the question on Bayern fans' lips as they watched their team run out for the game in Cologne. The home team wore their traditional red shirts, but the FCB kit staff had forgotten to pack the club's away strip and the reigning champions were obliged to improvise. Then president Uli Hoeneß personally snipped the sleeves off the players' white warm-up bibs, and they pulled the modified garments over their normal jerseys - job done.
The men from Munich were clearly not deterred by their 'new' one-off kit as they won the match 2-0. The outfit particularly suited Claudio Pizarro, who scored both goals. Bayern take on Köln once again this Tuesday, but it’s highly unlikely we’ll see a surprise jersey this time.
