FC Bayern made a strong start to the Konami eFootball Championship Pro season with two wins and a draw. The team, consisting of coach Matthias Luttenberger, José Carlos Sánchez, Miguel Mestre and new signing Mücahit Sevimli, met champions AS Monaco in the league opener on Saturday. New boy Sevimli made a perfect start, giving Bayern a 2-1 win against Kamel “Kams10_” El Morabet on his debut.
The clash between Mestre and Rachid "Usmakabyle" Tebane did not produce a winner after an even game and ended 1-1. In the third and final match, Sánchez brought three more points to Munich with a close 2-1 win over Eldridge "E_C_Oneill" O'Niel. This leaves Bayern with seven points on the board after the first matchday (three each for a win and one for a draw).
Miguel Mestre was visibly pleased with the result afterwards: "We played against the defending champions, who beat us last year. Today we had the chance for revenge and we took it. Now we focus on the next match day and keep working on ourselves."

After the first round of matches, Bayern sit in second place, two points behind surprise leaders AC Milan, who were the only team to secure the maximum nine points. The next matchday is on 4 March, when Bayern take on fourth-placed FC Barcelona and come up against former teammate Alejandro Alguacil Segura, who joined the Catalans in the summer. “It’s going to be a great match,” declared Mestre. “We have a good relationship with the Barcelona players. They’re also one of the title favourites and they’ll be tough contests, but when we concentrate on ourselves we can beat anyone.”
From the eight clubs taking part in the eFootball Championship Pro 2023, the top six qualify for the knockout rounds, which will be played on 24 June, with the top two going straight to the semi-finals. Seventh and eighth are eliminated.
