Hasan Salihamidzic had to take another look to find out where goalscorer Giovane Elber had gone. The Brazilian had spontaneously chosen a very unusual place to celebrate his goal against Wolfsburg. After the attacker had headed the ball home in the 86th minute, Elber ran jubilantly to the area behind the net and unceremoniously wrapped himself in a club crest of the German record champions laid out there. This Bavarian-Brazilian roll from December 1998 is still one of the most legendary moments in Bundesliga history.
No wonder, then, that his teammates joined in the creative celebration. Carsten Janker took a seat on the thickly wrapped Elber and gave his strike partner a friendly pat or two. Afterwards, Salihamidzic had the goalscorer do a few laps of honour by rolling the carpet around on its own axis together with Elber. The game ended 3-0 to Bayern after Salihamidzic added a 90th-minute penalty to Elber and also Janker’s finish in the 40th minute. The trio had more than earned their exuberant celebration that day.
