The eagerly awaited Bundesliga top-of-the-table clash is nearly here! Second-placed FC Bayern host leaders Borussia Dortmund on Saturday evening. Having been knocked off top spot by BVB on the last matchday, the German record champions are aiming to immediately reclaim the lead in the table. And there are plenty of stats that indicate they will...
1. FCB on impressive run against BVB
Bayern can point to a brilliant recent record against Borussia Dortmund. The Munich men are unbeaten in their last nine competitive encounters with BVB, winning eight in a row before a 2-2 draw in the first half of this season.
2. Big home advantage
Bayern have also won each of their last eight Bundesliga home games against the Black and Yellows, scoring 33 goals in the process (an average of over four per game). FCB are currently on a 25-match unbeaten run at home in all competitions, and they've won 11 of their last 13 at the Allianz Arena.
3. Tuchel up against former employers
Thomas Tuchel makes his debut as Bayern coach against none other than his former employers Borussia Dortmund. The 49-year-old coached BVB from 2015 to 2017, winning the DFB Cup in 2017.
4. Change at the top
Ahead of this showdown, Bayern surrendered their lead at the top of the table to Dortmund on Matchday 25 following the 2-1 defeat at Bayer Leverkusen. It's the first time since Matchday 13 of this season that the Bavarians haven't been top. With just one point separating the sides, FCB will be looking to immediately move back above their rivals with a home win.
5. Battle of the top attacks
This Saturday's Klassiker is also a meeting of the two deadliest teams in the Bundesliga. Bayern are clearly out in front with 72 goals scored this term, with Borussia in second place on 55 goals. Third are Leipzig with 49.
