Bayern trio celebrate convincing win over Peru
Germany saw off Peru 2-0 on Saturday night thanks to a convincing display. In their first international of 2023, Werder Bremen striker Niclas Füllkrug scored both goals in front of a full house in Mainz. Joshua Kimmich captained the German side and played the full 90 minutes, while Bayern teammates Serge Gnabry and Leon Goretzka came on at the start of the second half.
Sommer with comfortable opening win in EURO qualifying
It was also a successful evening for January signing Yann Sommer. Together with the Swiss national team, he enjoyed a commanding 5-0 win in Belarus to kick off EURO 2024 qualification. Former Wolfsburg man Renato Steffen netted a first-half hat-trick, with captain Granit Xhaka and Zeki Amdouni also on the scoresheet. The Swiss host Israel on Tuesday in their second qualifier.
Mazraoui with prestigious win against Brazil
Noussair Mazraoui enjoyed a great success with the Moroccan national team as the World Cup semi-finalists pulled off a shock 2-1 victory over Brazil, who are currently top of the FIFA world rankings. In a friendly at the Grand Stade de Tanger, Morocco took the lead through Sofiane Boufal in the first half. Casemiro equalised for the Seleção, before Abdelhamid Sabiri made it 2-1 in the 79th minute. Mazraoui played the full 90 minutes against the five-time world champions at left-back.
Davies & Canada with routine win against Curaçao
For Alphonso Davies and Canada, the next match in the CONCACAF Nations League was on the agenda - and the 2022 World Cup participants navigated it successfully. Jonathan David and Cyle Larin scored the goals in a 2-0 away win over Curaçao at the Estadio Ergilio Hato, with Bayern defender Davies starting on the left of midfield and playing 64 minutes.
Tel's France beaten by Norway
Mathys Tel and the French U19 team went down to a 2-1 defeat against their Norwegian counterparts in U19 EURO qualifying on Saturday afternoon. The French youngsters took the lead early on in the Group A contest through Eliesse ben Seghir, assisted by Tel. However, after Alwande Benedict Roaldsøy's equaliser, Antonio Nusa's winner 10 minutes before time consigned France to a 2-1 defeat at the Stade de la Source in Orléans. Tel's side play their last fixture of this international period against Romania on Tuesday.
