It's onto the next one! After the hugely important 4-2 Bundesliga win over Borussia Dortmund, Bayern host SC Freiburg in the DFB Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday evening. What suggests Thomas Tuchel's men will claim the next home victory and what record can Thomas Mü
1. Only previous cup clash a one-sided affair
This is only the second meeting between Bayern and Freiburg in the DFB Cup. In the previous encounter in the 2004/05 season - also at the quarter-final stage - the record cup winners (20 wins) breezed through 7-0 in the Black Forest.
2. Freiburg still winless in Munich
Freiburg have visited the Bavarian state capital 23 times in all professional competitions, all of them in the Bundesliga, and have never won (20 defeats, three draws). Last year's cup runners-up have not played another team so many times away from home without ever winning.
3. Strong record against SCF
The German record champions are also clearly ahead in the recent head-to-head record. Freiburg have not beaten Bayern since a 2-1 success at home in May 2015. In the last 13 competitve meetings, the Munich men have come out on top 10 times, with the other three ending in a share of the spoils.
4. Quarter-finals just an intermediate stop
When the record cup winners are in the last eight, it's normally just a stop on an onward journey. Bayern have won their last 11 quarter-final ties in the competition, and in the last three they've gone all the way to the final.
5. Bayern hungry for goals in cup
The Reds have scored at least four goals in their three cup matches this term against Viktoria Köln (5-0), FC Augsburg (5-2) and 1. FSV Mainz 05 (4-0). The last time they managed that feat was in the 2009/10 competition. The only time they've scored four or more in four successive cup ties was in the 1976/77 campaign, when their opponents where Hannover II, Hamburger SV, TV Unterboihingen and the FCB reserves. This record could now be equalled against Freiburg.
6. Müller on the way to another record
Bayern linchpin Thomas Müller has already beaten a number of records this season. With his 63rd appearance in the DFB Cup, he recently drew level with Bayern record holder Sepp Maier. The six-time cup winner now has the chance to become the outright record appearance maker against Freiburg. Overall only Charly Körbel (70 games for Frankfurt), Manfred Kaltz (67 for HSV) and Johannes Löhr (64 for Köln) have played more cup matches for one team than Müller has.
