FC Bayern Esports qualify for knockout stage

Another win! FC Bayern Esports beat AC Milan on Matchday 6 of the eFootball Championship Pro from Konami. The team of coach Matthias Luttenberger and José Carlos SánchezMiguel Mestre und Mücahit Sevimli enjoyed a convincing win over the Rossoneri by seven points to one, securing their place in the knockout stage with a match to spare. In the first game between Sánchez and Salvatore “ACM SASINHO” Di Giacomo, the Bayern man initially came under heavy pressure in the first half but held his nerve and took a 1-0 lead shortly before half-time. The Spaniard made it 2-0 soon after the restart, which is how it stayed. Mestre then took on tournament debutant Francesco “FRANKINO” Sirianni and trailed 1-0 to the Frenchman for a long time, before levelling at 1-1 in the 83rd minute. The most dominant display of the afternoon came from Sevimli, who eased to a 3-1 victory over Carmine “ACM Naples17x” Liuzzi.

Sevimli: Aim is to finish in the top two

“We’re very happy with our performance. All the teams in the league are very strong, but we were well prepared again and played well – we earned the seven points,” said Sevimli in his post-match interview. Regarding the now confirmed place in the knockout rounds, Sevimli stated: “Our aim is to finish in the top two.”

Manchester United on last matchday

Following the sixth round of fixtures, FC Bayern Esports sit in third place with 32 points, three behind second-placed FC Barcelona. The last matchday of the regular season will be played on 27 May, when Bayern face Manchester United. “It’s going to be a difficult match, they’re one of the strongest teams in the league. But when we execute our game, we can beat anyone. We’ll analyse our mistakes and those of United, and then go for the nine points,” said Sevimli on the next opponents.

Of the eight clubs in the eFootball Championship Pro 2023, the top six will qualify for the knockout round, which will be played on 24 June. The top two advance directly to the semi-finals. Places seven and eight are eliminated.
