Finals, here we come! This weekend, the FC Bayern Esports team are competing for nothing less than the Konami eFootball Championship Pro title. The team, coached by Matthias Luttenberger and consisting of José Carlos Sánchez, Miguel Mestre, Mücahit Sevimli and João Victor Ferreira Lopes, begin the knockout stages on Saturday (13:15 CEST) with a quarter-final against AS Roma.
"Also bring the title to Munich on the virtual pitch"
"After a strong season, we're looking forward to the knockout playoffs in Barcelona this weekend," said coach Luttenberger. "Our first opponents are Roma, who have also had a strong season. We're in the knockout stages, anything's possible. We've prepared as well as possible and will give our all to also bring the title to Munich on the virtual pitch."
All FC Bayern Esports games can be followed live on our Twitch channel.
The Bayern gamers ended the regular round with 32 points, three ahead of fifth-placed Roma. That's not the only reason the Munich men can fancy their chances against the Italian side – Sánchez and Co won the league meeting in mid-March by a clear margin with seven points (two wins, one draw). If FC Bayern Esports get over the hurdle of the quarter-finals, FC Barcelona would be waiting for them in the semi-finals (Saturday, 15:00 CEST) having gone straight through to the penultimate round as leaders of the regular round. The final then takes place at 17:00 CEST on Saturday.
Runners-up last year
The Bayern esportsmen previously reached the final of the eFootball Championship Pro last year, where they lost to AS Monaco following two highly dramatic games. Now they have another go at the crown.
