Konrad Laimer has bagged his favourite number: FC Bayern's Austrian newcomer will henceforth play for the German record champions with the number 27 adorning his back. Following his arrival in Munich, the 26-year-old had initially gone for the number 24 from the available options. Due to Yann Sommer's transfer to Inter Milan, Laimer's preferred number, which he had already worn at his previous clubs, became available again.
"Big shoes to fill"
"I already had the number 27 at Salzburg and Leipzig. On top of that, my birthday is on 27 May," said the midfielder, explaining his choice. Laimer thus also follows in the footsteps of his compatriot David Alaba, who sported this number from 2009 to 2021 at FC Bayern. "I'll cherish the 27, they're big shoes to fill. I'm happy to have this number," the Austrian continued.
