Kimmich, Sané and Co lose to Japan
Germany suffered a 4-1 defeat at home to Japan on Saturday evening. Hansi Flick’s side trailed after just 11 minutes in Wolfsburg through Junya Ito, and although Leroy Sané restored parity eight minutes later, the Asians scored again in the 22nd minute courtesy of Ayase Ueda. Two goals in second-half stoppage time from Takumo Asano and Ao Tanaka sealed the win for the Japanese. From a Bayern point of view, there were three Reds in the starting line-up in the form of Joshua Kimmich, Sané and Serge Gnabry. While Kimmich and Sané played the full match, Gnabry came off after 81 minutes. Thomas Müller came on in place of Kai Havertz in the 73rd minute. The four-time world champions play their next friendly on Tuesday with a prestigious clash against France in Dortmund (21:00 CEST).
Draw for Kane in Euro qualifying
Kane and the England national team were held to a 1-1 draw by Ukraine on Saturday evening, dropping points for the first time in this Euro qualification campaign after four straight wins. Ukraine went in front in Warsaw through Oleksandr Zinchenko (26'), but Kyle Walker levelled for the Three Lions shortly before half-time and 1-1 was how it finished. Kane captained the side and played the full 90 minutes. The Euro 2020 runners-up remain top of Group C with 13 points from five matches, followed by Ukraine (seven) and Italy (four). Kane and Co end this international break with a friendly against Scotland at Glasgow's Hampden Park on Tuesday (20:45 CEST).
Tel and France with first tournament win
Mathys Tel and the French U19 team claimed their first win at the Stevan Cele Vilotic Tournament in Senta, Serbia. After losing their opening game 2-0 to Montenegro, the French youngsters beat Hungary 2-0 in their second fixture, with Tel leading them out as captain. France play their final group game against hosts Serbia on Tuesday.
Israel and Peretz gain point in Romania
Daniel Peretz and the Israel national team earned a point with a 1-1 draw against Romania in Bucharest. The hosts took the lead in the first half through Denis Alibec (27'). However, Oscar Gloukh netted an important equaliser eight minutes after the restart. It leaves the Israelis in third place in Group I on eight points from five matches, behind Switzerland (11) and Romania (nine). Bayern new signing Peretz didn't feature at the Arena Națională.
