Jan-Christian Dreesen has been elected the new Vice-Chairman of the European Club Association Executive Board at the ECA’s 30th general assembly in Berlin. The FC Bayern München AG CEO has been appointed until 2027.
Jan-Christian Dreesen: "First of all, I would like to thank you for the trust you have placed in me. FC Bayern and the ECA have a long tradition, and I am delighted to take on responsibility in this leading body of European club football. We want to underline our claim to leadership in international competition and at the same time be a strong voice for German football. We also welcome the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding between UEFA and the ECA as it contributes enormously to the structural stability of European football."
The ECA was founded in 2008 with 137 members and now comprises almost 500 European football clubs. As one of the founding members, Germany’s most successful club is heavily involved in the organisation and has always been represented on its board in recent years. Supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who was chairman of the ECA for many years, is still honorary chairman.
In addition to the election of the Executive Board, this year's general assembly also saw the renewal of an agreement between the ECA and the European football association UEFA until 2030. According to this agreement, both parties will continue to recognise the other as the only club representation at European level and as the European umbrella organisation. In addition, the ECA will continue to have a voice on various UEFA committees.
