Bayern embark on their first European trip of the season on Tuesday as they visit Copenhagen in the Champions League. The Munich club want to extend their record runs in the group stage of 35 games unbeaten (W32, D3) and 14 straight wins as they take on the Danish champions. Find out which other records could be broken in our facts and stats ahead of the Matchday 2 encounter in Group A.
Potential away record in group stage
Bayern are unbeaten in their last 17 away fixtures in the group stage of the Champions League (W15, D2), including wins in each of the last six. Should Thomas Tuchel’s team return home from Copenhagen without defeat, it would set a new competition record. FCB are currently tied with Barcelona for the longest unbeaten run in Champions League group games away from home, which the Catalans set at 17 between November 2006 and October 2012.
Müller tops the entire Copenhagen squad
Thomas Müller made the 143rd Champions League appearance of his career in the 4-3 win over Manchester United on Matchday 1. It places the homegrown Bayern player outright sixth in the all-time list of appearance makers in the Champions League behind Cristiano Ronaldo (183), Iker Casillas (177), Lionel Messi (163), Karim Benzema (152) and Xavi Hernandez (151). To put Müller’s achievement into perspective, the entire Copenhagen squad combined has played 142 games in the Champions League (group stage to final) – one fewer than our No.25 alone. Bayern’s squad comes in with a total of 871 matches.
Müller reached another big milestone against Manchester United:
Sane still on fire
Leroy Sane has been directly involved in an impressive 15 goals in his last 11 appearances in the Champions League group stage (10 goals, five assists). He’s either scored or set up at least one goal in each of the last six.
Copenhagen yet to beat German opposition
Bayern are set to meet Copenhagen, who were founded on 1 July 1992, for the first time in a competitive fixture. The Danes have faced German opposition 12 times before but are yet to taste victory over their southern neighbours (D4, L8).
Saturday’s comeback in Leipzig should give Bayern an extra boost for Copenhagen:
