They were made to work hard, but FC Bayern's winning mentality prevailed once more in Istanbul. Up against an unforgiving home crowd and strong Galatasaray outfit, the Munich giants ran out 3-1 winners. In the process, the German record champions extended two quite remarkable Champions League group-stage records, whilst setting a new one to boot!
New UCL group record: eight straight away wins
Victorious in Istanbul, Bayern's run of eight successive away wins in the Champions League groups marks a new competition record. They haven't dropped points on the road at this stage since a 1-1 draw with Atlético Madrid in December 2020.
Sixteen successive wins, 37 without loss
No, your eyes do not deceive you! Bayern have won their last 16 Champions League group games on the trot, and are unbeaten in 37. Both are on-going tournament records. "The team can be proud of the streaks. To keep showing this mentality and hunger - that's what Bayern are all about. I'm proud to be a part of that," said head coach Thomas Tuchel.
Another perfect start
With maximum points so far in Group A, it's the fifth season in a row that Bayern have kicked off a Champions League campaign with three straight wins. The last time they failed to do so was in 2018/19 (seven points after three group games). Now it's about consolidating that emphatic start and taking another step towards the knockouts, when Bayern welcome Galatasaray to the Allianz Arena on 8 November.
