A total of five FC Bayern players were in action for their national teams on Saturday evening. Along with the Germany contingent who are in the USA, Noussair Mazraoui and the Moroccan national team met Ivory Coast. fcbayern.com reports on the results of the internationals.
Germany celebrate deserved win in USA
In the first match under new coach Julian Nagelsmann, Germany recorded a deserved 3-1 win against the USA. The four-time world champions actually fell behind at the Pratt & Whitney Stadium in East Hartford through a goal from former Bundesliga player Christian Pulisic (27'), but captain İlkay Gündoğan levelled the score shortly before half-time after brilliant work from Leroy Sané. Die Mannschaft gained control of proceedings after the break and turned the game around thanks to goals in quick succession from Niclas Füllkrug (58') and Jamal Musiala (61'). Sané and Musiala both started, while Leon Goretzka and Thomas Müller were second-half substitutes. Joshua Kimmich sat out after travelling back to Munich early due to flu.
Nagelsmann's side's next fixture in preparation for the home European Championship is this Wednesday against Mexico. Kick-off at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia is at 2:00 CEST.
Mazraoui with draw in Ivory Coast
Mazraoui and Morocco drew 1-1 with Ivory Coast in front of a crowd of 22,135 at the Stade Félix Houphouet-Boigny. Sébastien Haller of league rivals Borussia Dortmund put the Côte d'Ivoire in front on the stroke of half-time before Ayoub El Kaabi equalised for the 2022 World Cup semi-finalists in the 81st minute. Mazraoui started for Walid Regragui's side and came off with 66 minutes on the clock. Next up for the Bayern full-back is an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Liberia on Tuesday night (21:00 CEST) at the Stade Adrar in Agadir.
