“Today was a top match and we showed a top performance,” summarised head coach Thomas Tuchel following FC Bayern's 4-0 win away at Borussia Dortmund. Understandably, the coach and his players proved satisfied following their Klassiker success. “Today, we presented ourselves in the right way and got off to a good start,” commented captain Manuel Neuer. fcbayern.com rounds up the reaction for you.
Reaction to Bayern’s game away at Borussia Dortmund
Jan-Christian Dreesen: “This was a real statement. Obviously, we were apprehensive going into Der Klassiker. It’s a great relief and I’m very happy. The team wanted to show a reaction after Wednesday. This is the quality we are talking about. The players wanted to win. We are capable of winning big games. We made it 1-0 after four minutes – that's sensational. That gives you confidence and lifts you up, and then 2-0 came shortly afterwards and you get another boost.”
Thomas Tuchel: “I’m super satisfied with the team. Today was top. It was a top match and we showed a top performance. It was an intense game. We were very focused and clinical. We deserved to win and created many chances to score. I’m happy for the team, because we didn't play very well on Wednesday. These things happen, but what counts is the reaction. Everyone felt the importance today. It's a huge game in Germany.”
Manuel Neuer: “Every football fan and every football player looks forward to Der Klassiker. Today, we presented ourselves in the right way and got off to a good start. We have fast players which we were able to hurt Dortmund with.”
Leon Goretzka: “4-0 is very commanding. Particularly the counter-attacks, which we saw through very well at times, crushed our opponent in the end. Boxers are always dangerous when they're hurt. Maybe that's how it felt today. We didn't have a good week. That can really annoy you on a personal level, me included. For me, this is the most awesome away game. It’s just fun. I’ve never lost here as a Bayern player. The atmosphere is outstanding. These are the fixtures you play football for.”
Reaction from the Dortmund camp
Sebastian Kehl (sporting director): “It was a deserved defeat, even this high. We weren’t on the same level. We started the game badly. You could feel the insecurity. Bayern were more assertive in that situation. Overall, it wasn't a good performance from us and it wasn't enough. You can't pose a threat to Bayern like this. We made it easy for them. We won too few individual duels, allowed too many counter-attacks, and created too few chances.”
Edin Terzić (head coach): “We’re extremely disappointed. We had high hopes, but we weren't successful. The first set piece and we're already down. Then Bayern came at us with force and punished the little things. We were inferior in all areas. It wasn't enough at either end. We can’t allow this to happen to us. We’ll fight back and improve on Tuesday already. Bayern showed a really good performance.”
Gregor Kobel (goalkeeper): “I felt the Bayern players were simply more aggressive in the individual duels. They won many important duels and were dangerous with counter-attacks time and time again. We should’ve been better positioned with our covering defence. When we lost the ball, it was dangerous and Bayern had great open spaces.”
