Stats and facts ahead of Bayern vs. Union Berlin

Bayern could equal an almost 50-year Bundesliga record this Saturday as they host Union Berlin. The Munich club have scored in each of their last 63 home league games, with the all-time record set by Udo Lattek’s team between 1970 and 1974 now only one away. Find out what other stats and facts you need to know ahead of facing Union.

Unbeaten against Union

Bayern beat Union Berlin 3-0 at the Allianz Arena in their teams’ most recent encounter.

Bayern are still unbeaten in their eight Bundesliga meetings with the Köpenick club, winning five of them (plus three draws). FCB have only faced Darmstadt more often in the Bundesliga without tasting defeat (nine times).

Commanding against bottom sides

Bayern go into the weekend as the best second-placed team after 12 games in Bundesliga history with 32 points on the board. Union are second-bottom, which bodes well for the champions, who are unbeaten in their last 53 league meetings with teams occupying the bottom two positions. The last defeat was in March 2008 away at Energie Cottbus (2-0). The last time Bayern lost one of these fixtures at home was against Hannover in November 2006 (1-0).

Contrasting fortunes

While Bayern are on a run of 13 Bundesliga games without defeat (W11, D2), which is the longest of all teams in the division, the capital club are enduring the league’s longest winless streak. However, Union did end their nine-match losing run with a 1-1 draw at home to Augsburg last weekend.

Tuchel looking for new personal best

Thomas Tuchel’s team have won their last six league games, which leaves the 50-year-old on the verge of a personal record in the Bundesliga. The only time before he has overseen seven straight wins was with Mainz at the start of the 2010/11 campaign.

Kane in a league of his own

Harry Kane is also continuing his hunt for more records. He’s already the first player in Bundesliga history to have 18 goals after 12 matchdays of a season and he’s already among an illustrious circle at Bayern. Only two players have ever scored more goals in their first Bundesliga season at the club. They are Luca Toni (24 in 2007/08) and Roy Makaay (23 in 2003/04) – and Kane isn’t even halfway through this campaign! The England captain has netted in each of the last five games, which equals the best scoring run of his professional career in league fixtures.
