The facts on Bundesliga derby FC Augsburg vs. FC Bayern

With the away fixture at FC Augsburg on Saturday (15:30 CET), FC Bayern make their shortest away trip of the season. It hasn't exactly been an enjoyable one in recent years, though. More on that and other facts and figures on the match from fcbayern.com.

Problems with the neighbours

Harry Kane scores a goal in the Bundesliga match against FC Augsburg.

Bayern won 3-1 in the reverse fixture at the Allianz Arena, Harry Kane netting a brace.

Even though Bayern clearly lead the overall head-to-head record against Augsburg in the Bundesliga with 19 wins from 25 meetings (D2 L4), the Fuggerstädter have proven to be tricky opponents in the last few years. FCB have dropped points in three of their last four Bundesliga visits to the WWK Arena, losing in the last two (1-0 in September 2022 and 2-1 in November 2021). That's their worst current run against a Bundesliga team and should be motivation enough for the Munich men to reverse the trend against their neighbours.

Keeping it clean

Bayern registered their ninth clean of this Bundesliga season with the 1-0 victory in the rearranged match against Union Berlin on Wednesday – that's the most in the league. It's a very different story for Augsburg, who are the only side in the German top flight still without a clean sheet this term. In fact, FCA are only the third Bundesliga team in this millennium, after Werder Bremen in 2015/16 and Hoffenheim in 2013/14, to go the first 18 matchdays without a shutout. If the league's best attack has anything to do with it – Bayern boast the second-best attack in Bundesliga history at this stage of the season with 53 goals – that should remain the case on Saturday.

Three days before the match at Augsburg, FC Bayern beat 1. FC Union Berlin 1-0 in their rearranged clash.

Set the course in first half

Based on the stats, Bayern could determine the direction of this contest early. Thomas Tuchel's men have scored 22 goals before the break, more than any other team this season. On the other hand, Augsburg have conceded the same number of goals in the first half, the most in the division by a clear margin.

Bayern and the crucial first goal

And there's something else that suggests Munich could be the first to get on the scoreboard in Augsburg. No team have gone 1-0 up more times than the German record champions in the current Bundesliga season, while the hosts have trailed 1-0 the most times (13). However, even if that does turn out to be the case, Bayern should be warned as FCA have already rescued 15 points from losing positions, more than any other team in the competition.
