FC Bayern have signed 23-year-old French defender Sacha Boey from Galatasaray on a four-and-a-half-year deal until 2028. Find out more about the right-back born in the Parisian suburb of Montreuil.
The 1.78-metre-tall Frenchman is a quick right-back who is aggressive in his defending and very strong in tackles. He also likes to play with the ball at his feet as he now joins the ranks at the Allianz Arena.
A Rennes youth product
Boey spent his youth at Romainville and Red Star FC in the French capital before switching to the fabled Rennes academy in 2014. He made his Ligue 1 debut there as an 18-year-old against Toulouse on 5 May 2019. Boey lifted the Coupe de France in his debut season, although he didn’t feature in the shootout victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the final. The PSG boss that day was a certain Thomas Tuchel, while Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting was also in the Parisians’ squad.
Regular in Ligue 1
The right-back was loaned out to Dijon for the 2020/21 campaign and made a name for himself with 24 Ligue 1 appearances. After that season on loan he was signed by Galatasaray in summer 2021.
Maturing in Turkey
Boey made played in 19 competitive fixtures in his first season with the Turkish giants, including in the Europa League as he settled into his new surroundings. He became first choice at right-back last season, scoring one goal and providing four assists from 31 Süper Lig games to help Galatasaray lift the title.
Champions League encounters with Bayern
This season saw Boey make his debut in the Champions League, playing every minute of Galatasaray’s six group games, including both fixtures against Bayern. The No.93 caught the eye up against the likes of Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sane. A 1-0 loss away at Copenhagen on the final matchday saw the champions of Turkey miss out on the knockout stage, instead dropping into the Europa League. Boey, however, will continue to enjoy Champions League action now in Munich.
Former youth international
The 23-year-old is yet to win a senior cap for France, but his eye-catching performances in Istanbul and now his move to the six-time European champions will have done no harm to his chances of a call-up and potentially this summer’s Euros in Germany. He has so far represented France at U17, U18 and U20 level.
Anime and tennis fan
A look at Boey’s Instagram page tells you that the defender, who already knows Bayern forward Mathys Tel from their time together at Rennes, is a big fan of Japanese manga and anime. The 23-year-old likes to post about the series One Piece and Dragon Ball. Away from the genre, his favourite series is Prison Break and his favourite film is the Oscar-winning classic Titanic.
In addition to football, he is a fan of tennis and his favourite player is Rafael Nadal. His football idols are the Brazilians Ronaldo and Neymar. He and his new colleagues at Bayern now want to stop strikers of their calibre from scoring goals.
