Bayern are set to make history as they visit Freiburg for Matchday 24 in the Bundesliga on Friday night. It will be the Munich club’s 2,000th game in the top flight. After last week’s 2-1 win over RB Leipzig, the defending champions will want to continue that positive momentum as they visit the Black Forest.
2,000th Bundesliga game
Bayern are going to become the first club ever to reach the milestone total of 2,000 games in the Bundesliga. The record champions have won 1,206 of their 1,999 fixtures to date in the top flight and hold a 928-point lead over Borussia Dortmund in the all-time table with 4,048 points (using three points for a win, which was introduced in 1995/96). Their 4,484 goals scored (2.24 per game) and average of 1.09 conceded per game are also historic bests in Germany's top division.
Good run against Freiburg
Bayern have won each of their past five Bundesliga encounters with Freiburg. They are only on a better run against Darmstadt (eight) among current Bundesliga clubs. The Munich men have won 32 of the last 41 meetings (D8, L1), while the overall record in league games is also very much in favour of the Bavarians with 35 wins to five, plus nine draws.
Top tacklers
Bayern have won 51.2% of their duels in the Bundesliga this season, just slightly behind Freiburg’s total of 51.5%. Only Leipzig have come out on top in a greater proportion of challenges this season (52.3%).
Set-piece specialists
Bayern and Freiburg have both scored 15 goals from set pieces this season, which ranks behind only Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Mönchengladbach (both 16). The Black Forest club have therefore scored half of their 30 goals in 2023/24 from dead balls.
Sane’s favourite opponent
Leroy Sane has had a direct hand in six Bundesliga goals for Bayern against Freiburg (three goals, three assists), making them his favourite opponent to face.
