FC Bayern will travel to Asia again on this year's Audi Summer Tour and visit its fans in South Korea for the first time. As part of the “Coupang Play Series 2024” in partnership with Audi, the German record champions’ debut in the capital Seoul will see a match take place at the World Cup Stadium, with key details such as the date and opponent to be announced shortly. Thanks in no small part to the signing of Minjae Kim, FC Bayern is enjoying a steady rise in popularity in South Korea, with a huge influx of new members from the region since the transfer of the international defender last summer.
FC Bayern Executive Vice Chairman Michael Diederich: “We are delighted that FC Bayern will be visiting South Korea for the first time on our Audi Summer Tour in 2024. The enthusiasm for football in the entire region is huge and we are proud to have one of the top international stars from South Korea in our team in Minjae Kim. It will be a special journey, for Minjae and for our entire club. We are looking forward to the cultural exchange and to making interesting new contacts and building relationships in order to get to know the country and the people of South Korea better."
This year's Audi Summer Tour is the ninth in the history of Germany’s most decorated club, plus two digital versions during the Covid-19 pandemic. It was officially organised as the Audi Summer Tour for the first time in 2014. This summer, the club is travelling to Asia for the fourth time, having visited the USA on five occasions.
In addition to the Audi Football Summits against top international teams and the presentations of the new away jerseys in the world's glittering metropolises, special highlights included visits to the White House in Washington D.C. and NASA in Houston, as well as meetings with high-ranking representatives from politics and culture, and top international athletes such as NBA star James Harden or the Green Bay Packers NFL team at Lambeau Field. Last year, FC Bayern visited their fans in Tokyo and Singapore, where 50,000 supporters witnessed a spectacular 4-3 victory over Liverpool at the sold-out National Stadium in Singapore.
Coupang Play, OTT provider under Coupang, one of the largest retailers in Asia, will become from the 2024-25 season onwards the official and exclusive broadcaster of the Bundesliga in South Korea. The strategic cooperation goes way beyond the broadcast, as Coupang Play and Bundesliga International will collaborate across several areas. One of those focus areas includes the invitation for Bundesliga teams to participate in Coupang Play’s annual summer friendly series, and FC Bayern will be the very first Bundesliga club participating as part of this new partnership.
In keeping with a South Korean tradition, former players Patrice Evra and Ji-sung Park visited Säbener Straße with their coffee truck in winter to treat Minjae Kim and his teammates:
