To mark the occasion, we spoke to the former FCB player (1979-1994) ahead of his first day. “I spent my entire youth in Munich, at Bayern, and grew up here. There’s a lot of Bavarian blood in me,” said Eberl, who associates “home, heart, emotion and success” with the club. “And you can make things happen with that.”

Eberl: “Part of a team”

In our profile video, Eberl talks about how he first came to the club at the age of six: “I won’t ever forget that.” He also explains what led him to stay football after hanging up his boots and moving into management. In terms of his new role at Bayern, he sees himself as “part of a team that tries to create the best conditions and bring in the best players for Bayern.”

His first day in office also sees his first game as Bayern visit Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Friday evening. Eberl will be there keeping a keen eye on things.
